National Robotics Week 2023: Nova

Published by T-REV on Apr 12th 2023

Here at REV, our internship program equips college students with industry skills, tips, and tricks to help them embark on their STEM career journeys. Our Spring 2023 Mechanical Engineering Intern is Nova! Nova is a FIRSTAlumni and a Mechanical Engineering Technology student at Wayne State University in Michigan.

What inspired you to do what you do?

I was initially in the Civil Air Patrol (an auxiliary wing of the United States Air Force) and then I learned about robotics through one of my middle school engineering teachers. I signed up during my 9th grade year and immediately fell in love. Over the next couple of years, I learned that my passion was doing electrical/mechanical hands on work.

How long have you been a part of robotics?

I’ve been a part of robotics for six years. My first two years, I was part of the electrical subteam and the team technician for FRC Team 6861: The Tyros Team. My second year with the team, I also served as a captain. My third and fourth years, I was a captain for FRC Team 2832: The Livonia Warriors. My role was mainly electrical, with a little bit of mechanical mixed in. I mentored Team 2832 for the 2022 season. I'm currently mentoring FRC Team 2714: BBQ.

What brought you to REV?

I needed a break from the dull greyness that is Michigan winter weather, so I decided to look into interning down in Texas. Here I am now as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at REV! The culture at REV, the opportunity to work on robotics every day, and making products that teams are going to use and enjoy is an absolute pleasure. I'm able to take my experience and knowledge of my work with previous FRC teams to create products that are more accessible to all teams.

What else would you like to share?

  • Be yourself. Why should you let others define who you are and who you want to be?
  • Foxes are dogs running on cat software.

We’re so glad you chose to intern at REV, Nova, and we look forward to seeing your continued success as a role model within FIRST and STEM!
